Warrior Women are all of us. Warrior Women exist in every walk of life.
Here at Warrior Women Headquarters, we are just your regular gals trying to
make things happen.
Diana Lee - Creator
A student at the New School University, Diana decided to create Warrior Women
during the summer of 2000. The need to create Warrior Women came about
after an incident that took place in Diana's neighborhood leaving her feeling
extremely victimized yet helpless. As Diana experienced anger,
frustration, sadness, she decided it was time to do something...After speaking to
many encouraging women, Diana create Warrior Women. WW was at first a place
for her to let out her angst and frustration. However, after speaking to
several colleagues and friends, Diana realized how important it was for her to
make this place accessible to all women. Women need to work together now
more than ever. There is still a huge number of women of color who are
segregated and struggling on their own. The need to increase unity and
bond between women of color is urgent and pressing. Diana decided to use
this forum and vehicle to reach out to other women. Ultimately she would
like to create a workshop or "club" for where women can meet and
discuss issues, exchange resources and give support. In the mean time,
Diana wishes that this website will be a starting point for women to break
barriers, build bridges and reach out to one another.
Donna Alveranga -
Advisor/Contributor
Donna Alveranga is a mother of one who has been on welfare
and now has the opportunity to pursue her educational goals. In the
process of trying to educate herself, she has found that the welfare system is a
web and trying to educate oneself within this system is a luxury rather than a
right. Her frustrations come from trying to understand her place in
society as a Black single mother. Her need to live a successful life and
her realization that there is no support within mainstream society for people
like herself has brought her to WW to create a platform where women can give and
receive support in order to live and survive.
